What follows is one of the strongest horror sequels of the VHS era. Chucky is smarter, meaner, and far more confident this time around, while the larger budget allows for bigger set pieces, better effects, and one unforgettable finale inside the Play Pals toy factory.

Child’s Play 2 doesn’t waste much time getting Chucky back in business, and for my money, this is where the franchise really hits its stride. In fact, it landed at the top when we ranked the entire Child’s Play franchise from worst to best.

I always remembered seeing Child’s Play 2 sitting right beside the original at the video store. The cover looked familiar enough to promise more Chucky, but different enough to make you wonder what kind of trouble the Good Guy doll would cause next.

Director John Lafia keeps the suspense high while giving Chucky more personality without turning him into a full-blown comedian. The result is a sequel that many horror fans still consider the high point of the franchise.
